for more detailed information on the early years curriculum click here.

The 2 year old statutory check is carried out and the prime areas are summarised once children reach the age of 2. If the child is not on track their plan will be differentiated and individualised to fill the gap. We monitor different aspects of language and communication  development  and encourage talking and communication in a 1:3 ratio. Development matters guidelines are followed, this further helps staff to focus on the “next steps” and help children develop and reach their potential. Our summaries are shared with other agencies such as speech therapists for a more holistic approach to development. Once prime area targets have been reached we start focussing on specific areas ( maths, literacy, writing, expressive arts and design)The toddler room provides endless opportunities for the children to explore, including malleable play, a well stocked book corner, where language & communication is especially crucial and our the key staff are well equipped to help your child progress and to have lots of fun whist learning new words, nursery rhymes and songs. Sensory play include painting, musical instruments, play dough, sand & water, role play area, quiet corner , construction & block play using loose parts & table top sensory activities. This is also reflected in the outdoor play area on a bigger scale ie building using loose parts, climbing, balancing, using tricycles, scooters, and visiting the nearby field weather permitting
